The Calm Before The Storm
The Calm Before The Storm

Landing on East Coast shores in August 2011, Hurricane Irene proved to be the hurricane of hype. Media attention and enforced evacuations created a whirlwind of chaos, and as the colossal storm cruised toward New York City, residents entertained ideas of an apocalyptic squall and prepared for the worst by stalking up on bottled water, canned goods and batteries while barricading their brownstone stoops with sandbags.  However, aside from falling trees, power loss and some flood damage, most residents were unaffected while many approached the wind and water with playfulness and curiosity.
